Jessie Mary Vasey Labyrinth
Austin Health’s Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital in Melbourne.
My first labyrinth took 8 years for the hospital to agree to a site and then 8 months to build. Working with the truly amazing Aunty Joy Wandin Murphy. I designed 7 mosaic seats to acknowledge the Wurundjeri seasons of Melbourne. Students from Alphington Primary school made the mosaics with me and they were laid into the 120 tonnes of walling stone around the labyrinth. An indigenous themed garden now surrounds the labyrinth and physios from the Repat hospital use it for patient rehab as do the hospital chaplains visitors and patients. Open to the public.
